About Oberon Development

Since it's formation in 1989, Oberon has been committed to designing and offering superior bibliographic software, tailored to the needs and preferences of academic researchers and writers.

The company's first product, nbCitation, was developed as a collaborative effort with ProTem Software, publishers of Notebook II.

In 1994 Protem was dissolved, and Oberon integrated the Notebook and Citation programs, publishing a windows version of Citation that installed on the Tools menu of Word and WordPerfect. Over the years, upgrades to Citation have added features and web services based on customer responses and needs. In the larger academic community, Citation is well known for combining innovation with careful research and common sense in software design. For more than ten years, Citation has pioneered new ways of helping research writers in their work.

In 1998 the expertise developed from years of working with research methods and sources was enlisted in the task of developing a legal version of the product. In early 1999, LegalCitation was made available. This Legal Edition offers special data entry forms and automatic citation features based on the rules for legal citations outlined in A Uniform System of Citation (commonly referred to as the Bluebook). In early 2001 the 2d edition of LegalCitation incorporated the new set of guidelines for citing US legal sources published in the ALWD Citation Manual, as well as the Australian Guide to Legal Citation and the McGill Guide to citing Canadian legal authorities.
